The Beautiful Farmstead
Award is given by the Big Stone Soil & Water Conservation District
each year. The award, consisting of an aerial photo of the
farm site, has been in existence since 1972. The District
Board believes that in addition to conserving soil and water,
keeping our rural area beautiful is important and worthy of being
encouraged. Things the District looks for when choosing a
beautiful farmstead are the farm's general appearance, buildings,
windbreaks,
unique features, and any difficult situation the farm may have, such
as being located on a hillside, or near low, wetland.
